Food and Agriculture
To provide feasible solutions to the pressing requirements of food security in the country and the world at large, (a highly dynamic variable, owing to the drastic increase in population) research projects in the domain of Food & Agriculture are conceived. The intervention of materials science in food, nano-bio composite materials, nutraceuticals and micronutrients fortification in food are considered.
Research towards better yields in crops, pest management, post-harvest loss prevention are all important considerations during the conceiving of projects.
Understanding food formulation to combat malnutrition, and development of new plant varieties that are pest and drought-resistant and high-yielding, will be the main focus areas of study in this theme.
Scientific validation for Indian culinary practices will be another area of research.
