Justice Bhat completed his BSc from St Aloysius College, Mangalore, and a law course from Law School, Banaras Hindu University. In 1998, he was directly recruited as a district and sessions judge. He took oath as an additional judge of the Karnataka High Court on May 21, 2020, and was made a permanent judge on September 25, 2021.
