Dr. Biraj Borgohain

Researcher

Dr. Biraj Borgohain is a Researcher at Prayoga, specializing in Earth Sciences with a focus on the interactions between climate and tectonic processes that affect the habitability and sustainability of life. He holds a Ph.D. in Geology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2020), an M.Tech. in Petroleum Geology from Dibrugarh University (2012), an M.Sc. in Geology from Gauhati University (2010), and a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Geology from Gauhati University (2008). His research emphasizes quantifying the interplay between climate and tectonics in shaping the Earth's surface and paleoenvironment through methods such as geochronology (including low-temperature thermochronology and optically stimulated luminescence dating), remote sensing data, and a multidisciplinary approach incorporating sedimentology, tectonics, and geomorphology, along with statistical and numerical modeling. Dr. Borgohain has conducted field expeditions in the Arunachal Pradesh Himalaya (particularly in the Siang, Dibang, and Lohit river valleys), the Shillong plateau, and the Belt of Schuppen, focusing on the southeastern boundary of the Assam valley and the western part of Nagaland.
