Kriya

Introducing Every Indian Student to Experiential Science

Kriya aims to understand the impact of experiential learning of science on the development of competencies in Indian school students across five years.

The project intends to transform schools, empower teachers, and enrich the student learning experience, particularly for schools and areas that lack access to such opportunities.

Through a multi-year partnership, Kriya integrates teacher empowerment, courseware, and lab resources, to transform wholly transform the face of science education. Kriya is designed for the grades 6 - 10 and has been developed based on the NCERT syllabus.

Teacher Empowerment Program

Kriya begins with the teachers as they are the foundation of learning. Under
Kriya’s Teacher Empowerment Program (TEP), they will become subject matter
experts over the 5 years the program takes place.

TEP teachers will gain enhanced pedagogical knowledge, subject competence, resource development capabilities, and effective classroom management skills, allowing the full scope of Kriya to be realised.

Every year, 3 intensive residential workshops are designed for teachers to
1. Help transform them into experiential facilitators
2. Utilize various teaching methodologies and approaches to aid the development of competencies among learners
3. Use local resources and illustrations to make learning more context-specific

Prayoga’s Academic Coordinators are assigned to every school to provide year-long support with regards to academic planning, class preparation, reflective activities, pedagogy, and classroom management.

Additionally, each partnered school will receive a Lab Station, equipped with all the necessary materials required for the various experiments the students will conduct, as well as the Kriya Courseware – a collection of pedagogical materials comprehensively curated by a team of scientists, education researchers, and experienced teachers.

All models, content, and strategies developed through Kriya will be made open-source for all schools so that experiential learning can be made available across the country.
